In Kuantan, Malaysia we took the opportunity to spend a morning relaxing on a beach. Iris chatted with Li Lian while Philip and Monica took on the mighty South China Sea (big Andy Lim was stuck in Singapore). The road trip from KL to Kuantan was made much more pleasurable with the company of Li Lian and Monica.
Our short trip to Malaysia (for Sarah and Josh's wedding and to farewell brother John who is heading back to NZ) was delayed for 26 hours because of engine troubles. It was a long wait in the airport. Philip read anthropology (Beatty's Varieties of Javanese Religion) and Iris people-watched. We also had to queue in more over-crowded and chaotic queues than you could shake a stick at. This is a picture of only one of the many. Air Asia - the official low fare airline for Manchester United. Still, when all is said and done we'd rather have all the engine troubles while the plane is still on the tarmac...

Today Philip and Putut (Philip's Bahasa Indonesia teacher) went on a field trip to a pabrik tahu (tofu factory) and then munched on some goodies at the local toko roti (bakery) - enak sekali!
